Annie Hansen is a graduate of The University of Illinois with a B.S. in Biology. She is a partner with Hansen Search Group, a staffing firm she co-founded with her husband and business partner, Brent Hansen, in 2001. She was named the winner of the Helen McCloy Mystery Writers of America Scholarship in 2011 for her submission of Give Me Chocolate. I recently won the second book in this series and being the OCD personality that I am, I had to read the series in order so I rushed to purchase this book to read first. Oh, I am so glad that I did! I love the character development and the main character is quite interesting. Kelly Clark is divorced from a murderous lout and she happens to be a mystery author as well. She lives above her sister's chocolate shop as she is trying to put her life back in order and get a book written so she can start supporting herself again. When everything gets turned upside down when Kelly literally trips over a dead body in the chocolate shop! I can't wait to see what the rest of the series has in store for us as well!Product details

A well written mystery! Kelly is still recovering from her divorce and her husband's criminal activities.
She meets her first love and thinks there is a re-connection
But something is wrong.......
I got frustrated during the first half of the book, but things picked up in the final quarter. The characters are good and easy to be involved with. It seemed to drag a bit, but like I said, the pace picked up in the last few chapters. I will look forward to reading more in this series, as I do like the characters. And there's chocolate!
I really enjoyed this well written cozy mystery Kelly had moved back to her home town to escape a failed marriage Her sister let her live in the apartment above the bakery and collecting concentrate one her writing in return Kelly would frost cupcakes for her. With the idea of getting into shape belly and her sister joined a yoga class signed up for a charity run only to find the organizer wasn't what she seemed to be
You would never sense that a truly suspense-filled murder mystery novel was behind this innocent title.
This first novel in what I sense will be a terrific series has divorced cozy writer, Kelly Clark back in Geneva, Illinois writing her latest novel. Kelly grew up in Geneva and when her marriage exploded, she sought the comfort of moving back home and living over her sister's desert business...The Chocolate Love. Ooh the cupcakes...but I digress.
Not only is Kelly back in town but so is her first sweetheart, Jack O'Malley. They have more in common than either realizes and more than I'm going to tell you because that is what the mystery is about and I do not spoil plots.
At first you think this is a romance, then perhaps a romance suspense, but don't let the Chocolate fool you, this is one heck of a suspense with a touch of romance and lots of crimes. The main point is this novel is really good. It was a page turner for me. Give this author a try if you do not know her. Enjoy...I did!
Give Me Chocolate A Kelly Clark Mystery by Annie Hansen is the first book in the series and also the first book of Annie Hansen’s I’ve read. It is a fun read and I was captivated by the story right from the beginning!
After a horrible divorce, Kelly left California and returned to her hometown of Geneva IL. Thanks to the kindness of her sister, Nikki, Kelly has a new apartment above Nikki’s chocolate shop, Chocolate Love. While Kelly writes her latest novel, her past starts catching up with her in good and bad ways. Her world gets turned upside down when she trips over the dead body of one of Nikki’s employees at Chocolate Love. She begins investigating to try and find the killer. She reconnects with her first love, Jack, but the horrors from her California life are haunting her, as well. And, to add to the mayhem in her life, her older sister, Adelle, is behaving strangely.
I thought the story moved along really well and there were plenty of twists and turns where I wondered if Jack and Adelle were really out to get Kelly. I really enjoyed the descriptions of Kelly’s hometown and also nearby Chicago. I’ve never visited the area so it was fun to “see” it through Kelly’s eyes.
I would definitely recommend this book if you love a good cozy mystery)

Give Me Chocolate Kelly Clark Mystery by Annie Hansen is the first book in the series which I look forward to reading more of. It is a delicious mixture of mystery, romance, family, and a fun fast interesting read.
Kelly has returned home to Geneva IL trying to put her past horror behind her but when her past and try to make a new start. Things were getting better but then her past comes back to bite her and her world gets turned upside down again. Is she really in danger again or is the crazed Gina just crazy? Who is she being warned against and is the warning really necessary. Did the beloved Fran who works in her sister Nikki's Chocolate Lover store die of natural causes or was she killed? Who can she trust and what is going on with her sister Adelle and her husband? Will Kelly be able to find these answers and move on from her past and fear? Will she be able to pursue a relationship with and old beau Jack or is he someone to avoid? Can Kelly let her guard down and feel whole and normal again or just when she does will the true danger begin? You will have to read it to find out I won't give it away.
This book started to me off a little slow but sometimes that happens in a first book when you have to set the characters up and the plot. After a few pages though you find yourself enthralled and wanting to know more and find out what is happening. It is a fast read but one that once you get into it you won't want to put it down till all your questions are answered and you find out who, what and why things are happening again and is Kelly in danger.
Give Me Chocolate is written where you can just picture being right in the middle of the bakery at Chocolate Love with all that is going on and feel right at home. The family dynamics add to this book because we all know how families can get but when the chips are down we band together. The story is believable and has some good twists. I enjoyed the book and if you like a good fast cozy that has love, romance, family oriented, and a puzzle or two then you will enjoy this book. The only thing is you might have to push through the first few pages to get to the interesting part just don't give up I don't think you will be disappointed.
